VEG GARDEN SO FAR

This year I have tried to grow as much veg as possible.
I have brought a commercial poly tunnel last Christmas but it is still in bits.
So unable to use this year. So relying on my small greenhouse and raised beds.
But they seem to be going o.k.

This bed has mixed varieties of Lettuce and Spinach. The old Belfast sink has flowers grown from seeds.

These raised beds have more Lettuce, Courgettes and Beetroot.

This bed has more Courgettes and Cauliflowers.

I have carrots, Beetroot, Courgettes and Cauliflowers in these two.

My Rhubarb is really growing well .Lots of crumbles coming my way.

I am also growing Sweet Peas, Coriander, Aubergines, Tomatoes, Chillies,Peppers,
Chives, Basil, Cauliflowers, Beans, onions, Cabbage, Strawberries Mint,Lots of Herbs and lots of flowers.
It's amazing what you can do in a small space.
Fingers crossed after all my hard work I will have lots of veg to eat.

Concentrating on putting colour into the garden now.

Have you grown your own this year?
What have you planted.?

Would love to hear.

  1. We love growing our own. This year we have 400 potatoes and 600 onions planted down at the allotment - we have been totally self sufficient in potatoes for a year now, and we're hoping for a bumper crop again this year.We also have blackcurrants, whitecurrants, rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, pears and apples. The front garden has potatoes, broad beans, peas courgettes, sweetcorn, lettuce, spring onions, kale and beetroot, with French beans and tomatoes ready to go out, and we have 11 tomato plants in the greenhouse. As we follow a plant based diet, growing our own means that I can keep our shopping bills really low.

  2. Scarlet sounds like you have worked out how to be self sufficient really well. I have never grown potatoes because I know I need quite a bit of room. I used to have two apple trees in my front garden but the main one fell over and could not be saved. So we only have one now which is young so still only produces a small amount of fruit. I brought some peas today so will have to find a space for them. I am hoping my shopping bills will be lower and home grown has such a better taste.

  3. WE have a few strawberries, carrots and potatoes and that is all this year. With our garden reorganisation I am behind with every thing else.

  4. The gardens are really beginning to get going now with the mix of sun and rain we have been having. Its amazing what you can grow in such small spaces isnt it. I love all your raised beds, they are so tidy, they remind me of mini allotments with the little picket fence around them :-) we have mesh round ours to keep the pesky rabbits out!
    Have a lovely Sunday xx

  5. Hi Karen. We have many rabbits all around us because we are surrounded by fields.
But because I have put posts and chicken wire all around the front garden (to keep the little dogs in) It seems to have kept the bunnies out! Shame it does not stop the slugs and snails.
